Plaintiff William Lorance was injured while working on the repair of a Model 5760 strip-mining shovel. Lorance filed a complaint in the district court below seeking $300,000 in damages, and alleging that his injury was caused by the negligence of the defendant, Marion Power Shovel Company, Inc.
