In 1970 Fred M. Williams, the defendant, tendered a plea of guilty to the charge of aggravated battery. This plea was accepted, judgment was entered thereon by the Circuit Court of Kankakee County and he was sentenced to a term of imprisonment for not less than 7 nor more than 10 years. This conviction was appealed unsuccessfully to this court. See People v. Williams,
