Petitioner, Gayle Franklin Courtney, pleaded guilty on November 8, 1965, to interstate transportation of a stolen motor vehicle, in violation of 18 U.S.C § 2312, and was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment. He has now filed a motion to vacate sentence pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2255, alleging that his conviction was invalid because he was not represented by an attorney, and that the district court granted him a new trial in a prior post-conviction...
