Defendant first assigns as error the court's overruling his objection to the State's motion for consolidation of the two charges for trial. Defendant concedes that the court is expressly authorized by statute, G.S. § 15-152, to consolidate for trial two or more charges against the same defendant where the crimes charged are of the same class and are so connected in time or place that evidence at the trial of one charge will be competent and admissible...
