On October 13, 1959, appellant was convicted of possession of narcotics in violation of subdivision 2 of section 1751 of the former Penal Law and was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of between 8 and 16 years. On August 30, 1972 he was released on parole. On April 19, 1973 he was arrested on three drug-related offenses, and a parole violation warrant was subsequently issued on the basis of that arrest. The charges were dismissed...
