Appellants were convicted in a jury trial of operating an illegal gambling business1 and of conspiring to commit that offense.2 These direct appeals require us to decide whether the prosecutor's statement in closing argument that the jury should "require" the defendants to present a "reasonable explanation" of the meaning of taped wiretap evidence, other than the criminal meaning he ascribed...
