The appellant, Ruby Helen Charleston, was charged on information with voluntary manslaughter in the killing of her paramour, James Singleton, with whom she lived as his wife and by whom she had one child. At a trial before the circuit judge, sitting as a jury, she was convicted of the charge and was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary with one-third of the time to be served before parole.
