On August 1, 1974, the Arkansas Senate voted to "expel and/or disqualify" Senator Guy Hamilton Jones, Sr., from that body. Jones brought this suit against Lee Reaves, Secretary of the Senate, and various other state officials, to prohibit those officials from acting on the assumption that the expulsion was valid.
