JOSLIN, Justice.

This action of trespass1 for false arrest and assault and battery was tried to a jury in the Superior Court. After both sides had rested, the trial justice granted the defendants' motion for a directed verdict on the assault and battery count, and the plaintiff's motion for a directed verdict as to liability on the false arrest count.
