On the evening of May 19, 1971, Patrolmen Thomas Curry and Nicholas Binetti were shot with a machine gun and sustained serious physical injuries. This shooting took place on Riverside Drive, in the Borough of Manhattan. It was believed that a Pinto or Mustang sports car was used by the perpetrator.
