Defendant, Calvin C. Tippit, was convicted, following a bench trial, of unlawful use of weapons in violation of Ill. Rev. Stat. 1971, ch. 38, par. 24-1(a)(4), and sentenced to two months in the County Jail. He was also convicted of possessing a handgun "while ineligible to register firearms" in violation of chapter 11.1, section 15 of the Municipal Code of the City of Chicago, and fined...
