OPINION

FITZGERALD, Justice.

David Chauvin brought an action against the University of Alaska1 for breach his contract of employment. After trial, he obtained a judgment of $49,086.08 for damages, prejudgment interest, costs and attorneys' fees. The University has appealed.

Chauvin was first employed by the University in 1961. He has since held several positions, all of them involving technical engineering skills.
