The nine defendants in this case were charged in a two-count indictment filed June 14, 1973 with violating 18 U.S.C. § 1955 and conspiracy to violate that section, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 371. 18 U.S.C. § 1955 provides that "(w)hoever conducts, finances, manages, supervises, directs, or owns all or part of an illegal gambling business shall be fined not more than $20,000 or imprisoned not more than five...
