The defendant, an American Indian, was convicted of the crime of larceny in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 661 and 1153 in connection with the killing of a calf on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. He was sentenced to two years probation and thereafter brought this appeal.
