I. Preliminary Statement

We have before us the motions of defendant Theodore Clearfield for a new trial and arrest of judgment in the wake of a four-week-long non-jury trial1 in which he was charged with sixteen counts of violating or aiding and abetting violations of 18 U.S.C. § 1001.2
