Defendant, Christine Mary Tharp, was convicted of a violation of La.R.S. 40:971, the distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, to wit: 3, 4 methylenedioxy-amphetamine (MDA). She was sentenced to pay a fine of $1,000.00 and costs or, in default thereof to serve six (6) months in the Parish Jail and, in addition, to be confined at hard labor for a period of one (1) year and committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections.
