The complaint sought compensatory and punitive damages for slander. The issue of liability was determined in favor of the plaintiff on default. Vacatur of the default was denied. We affirmed that order (36 A.D.2d 1027). On the inquest the issue of damages was then tried to a court and jury. The result was an award in favor of the plaintiff for both compensatory and punitive damages. The award for compensatory damages was set aside...
