In each of these cases, charging distribution of heroin in violation of 21 U. S.C. § 841(a)(1) (1970), the government offered proof that the defendant had previously trafficked in the drug. This evidence included not only the details of the earlier transactions, but also expert testimony that the heroin had been identified by laboratory analysis.
