In June, 1968, Meares and two associates, a partnership doing business as B & M Broadcasting Company (Meares), contracted to purchase the broadcasting facilities of Radio Station WSMD-FM, located at La Plata, Maryland, from Charles County Broadcasting Company, Inc.
