The grand jury of Jefferson County returned three (3) indictments against appellant charging him with assault with intent to murder. The victims were Delma Lewis, his paramour, William K. Thomas and Michael McCleskey, two police officers of the City of Birmingham. The state moved that the three cases be consolidated for trial.
