These are appeals under the provisions of G.L.c. 278, §§ 33A-33G, from convictions of the defendants on four indictments which charged all four defendants (as well as a fifth man who was not tried with these defendants) with crimes against one Michael Allen. From Allen's testimony the jury could have found as follows:

At approximately 11:00 P.M. on April 12, 1971, Michael Allen, about to enter his own home, was intercepted and forced...
