On May 3, 1967, plaintiff Maria Megge lost parts of three fingers on her left hand while operating a press at the Snover Stamping Company plant in Snover, Michigan. Joined with her husband, Paul Megge, she sued the defendant, Lumbermens Mutual Casualty Company, the workmen's compensation insurance carrier for the plant, alleging it was the third-party tortfeasor negligent in failing to properly inspect the Snover plant and machinery.
