TUCKETT, Justice:

The defendant and his codefendant were charged with the crime of murder in the first degree in the District Court of Davis County, Utah. At the conclusion of the trial on that charge the jury returned a verdict of guilty with the recommendation that the defendant be imprisoned at hard labor for life.
