James Pacente, a veteran Chicago police officer, was indicted on two counts: extorting money from Stojan Kovacevic, the owner of Chicago-Oak Liquors, a combination liquor store and tavern, in violation of the Hobbs Act, 18 U.S.C. § 1951; and making a false declaration before the grand jury in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1623.
