On July 18, 1972, Robert Hammond, petitioner, was convicted in the Superior Court of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, of possession of heroin, and is now in the custody of the Monroe, North Carolina prison unit serving a three-year sentence for that offense. He seeks habeas corpus upon four grounds, the first of which is his claim that the search of his person, pursuant to an arrest for speeding, which uncovered the heroin...
