Plaintiff, Felipe Virgona, a longshoreman employed by Universal Terminal & Stevedoring Corporation ("Universal")1 instituted this action to recover damages for injuries he claims he sustained as a result of an accident on March 14, 1969, while aboard the S.S. AUSTRALIAN GULF, a vessel owned and operated by defendant Farrell Lines, Incorporated ("Farrell Lines").2
