Dawn Palmer is the 8-year-old daughter of John J. and Sharon Palmer who were married in 1960, divorced in 1965, and remarried to each other in 1971. On May 7, 1968, Margaret Spalding, Dawn Palmer's maternal grandmother, was appointed guardian of Dawn Palmer pursuant to her petition, at a time when the whereabouts of both natural parents were unknown to her.
