This case raises difficult questions of the balance to be reached between individual rights and the military's need to control its own affairs. The plaintiff, a woman member of the Air Force (WAF), urges that Air Force Manual 39-10, Reg. 3-15, which provides for the immediate discharge of WAFs who become pregnant, violates her rights under the fifth amendment due process clause.
