Defendant and a codefendant1 were charged with second-degree murder in the death of one Steve Loukas (MCLA 750.317; MSA 28.549). Defendants were tried together before a jury in Detroit Recorder's Court, and were both convicted of manslaughter (MCLA 750.321; MSA 28.553).

The evidence presented at the trial indicated that the defendants were observed beating the decedent...
