Robert James Ferguson was indicted for the murder of Exie Ruth Sutton in Bowling Green in June 1971, was tried in November of that year, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to serve twenty-one years in the penitentiary, the maximum penalty for the offense.
