Plaintiffs, the United States and the Commodity Credit Corporation, instituted this action to recover $610,203.26 for damage to cargo shipped aboard defendant vessel, the SS Wabash. Defendant Midwest Shipping and Trading Corporation (Midwest) paid $97,500 in full settlement of plaintiffs' claim.
