On May 31, 1968, this action was commenced to acquire 14.81 acres of land for a pit and stockpile site to be used for the construction, maintenance and operation of state primary Highway 3 (sign route 129). At that time, the area was under lease to the state for the extraction of gravel and was so leased at other times beginning in 1956.
