These two indictments arose out of circumstances which can be briefly summarized as follows:

It appears that on May 4, 1967, officer Nickerson of the Lincoln Police Department who was on duty in a police cruiser in that town, observed an automobile bearing Massachusetts registration plates P48109, occupied by three persons, which he decided to stop for a routine license and registration check conformable to the provisions...
