Plaintiff, James W. Brinkley, was employed as a longshoreman on July 31, 1968, by Old Dominion Stevedoring Corporation, the third-party defendant. The task on that day was to load rolls of linerboard into the No. 4 hatch of the Icelandic Motor Vessel SELFOSS from the apron of Pier B, Sewell's Point, in Norfolk, Virginia.
