The basic question before us on this appeal is whether defendant Al Berlin's plea of guilty was accepted by the trial court in full compliance with the standards set forth in McCarthy v. United States, 394 U.S. 459, 89 S.Ct. 1166, 22 L.Ed.2d 418 (1969).

On March 21, 1969, defendants Joseph Jed Goldman, Al Berlin and Charles W. Shattuck were charged together...
