Defendant-appellant Clarence Shak, hereinafter called defendant, was convicted of four violations of traffic laws1 in the District Court of Honolulu. On appeal to the First Circuit Court for trial de novo, he was again convicted, this time after his demand for a jury trial had been refused by the Circuit Court.
