On August 26, 1964, the plaintiff, Sammy G. Ferdinandtsen, was seriously injured during the course of his employment with Delta Marine Drilling Company, defendant, aboard the latter's submersible drilling barge. The accident occurred on navigable waters in Plaquemines Parish while the barge was submerged for the purpose of drilling an oil well.
