Allegations

The plaintiffs on July 2, 1965, were female employees of the Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company ("Liggett & Myers") plant in Durham, North Carolina, and members of Local 176, Tobacco Workers International Union, AFL-CIO ("Local 176"). During that month, due to a reduction in the work force, they were laid off when males of lesser seniority who performed jobs within plaintiffs...
