Plaintiff, appellee, while in the performance of his duty as a seaman on his employer's vessel, received a crushing injury to his left hand and brought suit in admiralty for damages grounded on the General Maritime Laws alleging unseaworthiness of the vessel, and under 46 U.S.C. § 688 (commonly referred to as the Jones Act), alleging negligence. The case was filed in admiralty but later upon plaintiff's motion was transferred to the law...
