On August 28, 1968, defendant was charged with reckless driving. MCLA § 257.626 (Stat Ann 1968 Rev § 9.2326). In October, 1968, he pled not guilty before a referee in the traffic and ordinance division of Detroit recorder's court. At trial, on October 9, 1968, defendant appeared with counsel and offered a plea of careless driving.
