Defendant was charged with carrying a concealed weapon (pistol) upon his person without a license. CL 1948, § 750.227 (Stat Ann 1962 Rev § 28.424), conviction of which is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years or by fine. At his arraignment defendant stood mute.
