The question posed by this case is whether the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan was right in holding appellants' patent No. 2,979,062 invalid. The patent, issued April 11, 1961, covered a commercially successful automatic power washing machine for cleaning automobile engine heads and similar large castings. The District Court held the patent invalid because the device had been "on sale" for more than one year...
