As Mobile, Alabama, prepared to crown America's Junior Miss of 1969, the black community intensified its quest for racial equality by engaging in a series of protest demonstrations. One consequence of the resulting turmoil and confusion is a congeries of legal problems relating to ordinances of the City of Mobile and their effect on First Amendment rights.
