These direct appeals were consolidated for argument since the claimed errors in each case are identical. Scott was convicted in separate trials of the Zanzibar Motel and Holiday Inn robberies. The main question is whether certain items of evidence found in the small console compartment ahead of the gearshift handle of Scott's automobile were the product of an illegal search.
