On March 2, 1967 Raymond Branham filed in the Circuit Court of Dickenson County a petition for a writ of habeas corpus praying that the respondent, Jean Branham Raines, be required to produce in court Romona Branham, their seven-year-old daughter, whose custody, he said, had been awarded to him by an order of the Court of Common Pleas of Morrow County, Ohio.
