The accident happened on December 18, 1963, when the plaintiff Blanche Wiggin, who had been shopping in the store of the defendant Kent McCray, attempted to exit through the automatic door. She testified that at first it stuck, then when she stamped upon the mat, it began to open. Before she could get out, it closed and locked, pinning her against the frame.
