1. (a) The defendant contends the evidence disclosed that he was not negligent in any manner and that his motion for a directed verdict should have been granted. Code Ann. § 68-1626 (c) (Ga. L. 1953, Nov. Sess., pp. 556, 578), provides in part: "The driver of every vehicle shall, consistent with the requirements of subdivision (a), drive at an appropriate reduced speed when approaching and crossing an intersection or railway grade crossing...
