Under the provisions of the Charter of the City of Bridgeport, Connecticut, the legislative powers of the municipality are vested in a Common Council, or Board of Aldermen. Formerly that body consisted of the Mayor and sixteen aldermen, one of whom was elected from each of sixteen voting districts in the City.
