In the first case, the plaintiffs sought to recover past due interest on two notes given by the defendant, both of which were secured by a first mortgage on certain real property owned by the defendant. In the second case, the plaintiffs sought to recover the principal amount of the two notes, plus interest accrued since the institution of the first action.
