Appellant Jackson was convicted by a jury of murdering his former wife, Christine Savoy; and he also was convicted of assaulting Dr. Henry Pope, with intent to kill and with a dangerous weapon. The conviction on the first count was of murder in the first degree, but the jury did not fix the death sentence.
